❍ Instructions

  • Have your mobile phone fully charged, Zoom downloaded, and WIFI / internet available
  • Locate an electric device, appliance or system within your city
  • Approach it; from a distance or up close and personal
  • Listen (without sounding) for at least 5 mins to the pitch it makes as it rotates
  • Experiment with mimicking or complementing that pitch, mouth open or closed
  • Practice listening and sounding simultaneously
  • Practice tuning your sound to the pace of the motor’s rotation; you may find your body wants to join in
  • Practice sounding as long as possible with a single breath
  • Join the Zoom room at exactly 9:00 and or 20:00 BST on 16 July 2020 on the day of the exhibition launch.  Sign up to the launch event to receive the link.
  • As you join, hold the mobile phone between your mouth and the motor
  • For 10 minutes, sound with the motor as co-material bodies

Permission for the director and host organization to record and publish the works subsequently is implied when participating.
